Deadline: 01 April 2026
The International Trans Fund (ITF) is marking ten years of resourcing, accompanying, and standing alongside trans-led movements across the globe. Founded to address the chronic underfunding and marginalization of trans organizing, ITF has grown into a unique, trans-led global fund that moves resources through participatory, power-sharing grantmaking and advances transfeminist approaches to philanthropy.
As trans movements face escalating political hostility, coordinated anti-gender campaigns, and shrinking civic space, ITF believes it is both urgent and necessary to document what has been built, what has shifted, and what has been made possible through a decade of trans-led resourcing. This is not only a moment for reflection, but a strategic opportunity to strengthen collective memory, inform future direction, and uplift stories that have too often remained invisible.
ITF is therefore seeking a consultant (or small consultancy team) to lead a 10-year impact documentation process that combines quantitative and qualitative analysis with deeply grounded storytelling, centering trans voices, lived experience, and movement knowledge.
- Consultancy Period: 6 months (exact timeline to be agreed)
- Location: Remote
- Start Date: April 2026 (exact date to be agreed)
Purpose of the Consultancy
The purpose of this consultancy is to produce a rigorous, accessible, and politically grounded documentation of ITF’s impact over its first ten years, with a particular emphasis on:
- How trans-led organizations and movements have been strengthened through ITF’s resourcing and accompaniment
- What has shifted in the funding ecosystem as a result of ITF’s participatory, transfeminist approach
- The untold stories of resilience, strategy, care, failure, adaptation, and collective power that rarely appear in traditional evaluations
- How ITF’s work has contributed to movement sustainability, autonomy, and liberation over time
This documentation will serve multiple audiences including trans movements, grantee partners, donors, philanthropic allies, and ITF’s own governance and staff, while remaining accountable first and foremost to trans communities.
Scope of Work
The consultant will be expected to design and lead a mixed-methods documentation process that includes, but is not limited to:
1. Quantitative and Programmatic Analysis
- Review and synthesize 10 years of ITF grantmaking data, including geographic reach, funding volumes, grant types, and thematic focus areas
- Analyze trends related to movement strengthening, funding gaps, and shifts over time
- Support ITF in articulating impact in ways that are credible to donors while remaining movement-aligned
2. Qualitative Research and Participatory Learning
- Design and facilitate qualitative methods such as interviews, focus groups, learning conversations, and/or reflective surveys with grantee partners, Grant Making Panel members, Board members, and movement allies
- Ensure participatory, ethical, and trauma-informed approaches that prioritize consent, safety, accessibility, and care
- Center perspectives from historically under-resourced regions and communities, particularly from the Global Majority
3. Storytelling and Narrative Documentation
- Capture stories of change, movement journeys, and organizing strategies that illustrate impact beyond numbers
- Surface untold or under-documented stories, including moments of challenge, adaptation, and collective learning
- Support ITF in articulating a compelling narrative of how trans-led funding contributes to autonomy, resilience, and liberation
4. Knowledge Products and Outputs
Expected outputs may include (to be refined with ITF):
- A flagship 10-year impact report (approx 20 pages)
- Shorter learning briefs or thematic case studies
- Story-based profiles or vignettes for communications and advocacy
- Clear, donor-facing summaries that align with ITF’s Strategic Vision (2026–2036)
Approach and Values
ITF is seeking a consultant who understands that impact is not neutral, and that documenting trans movements requires political clarity, humility, and care. The consultant should bring:
- A strong commitment to participatory, transfeminist, and/or decolonial approaches
- Experience working with grassroots, community-led, or movement-based organizations
- The ability to balance methodological rigor with storytelling, nuance, and accessibility
- Comfort working across regions, languages, and cultural contexts
- An approach that values learning, reflection, and accountability over extractive evaluation
Consultant Profile
We welcome applications from individuals or teams, and strongly encourage trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse consultants to apply.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Proven experience in mixed-methods evaluation, learning, or impact documentation within social justice or movement contexts
- Strong qualitative research and facilitation skills
- Excellent writing and synthesis abilities in English, particularly for narrative and story-based outputs; knowledge in other ITF working languages (Spanish, French, Russian, Chinese) is desirable
- Experience translating complex findings into accessible and compelling products for diverse audiences
- Alignment with ITF’s transfeminist values, mission, and political commitments
Application Process
Interested consultants are invited to submit:
- A brief proposal outlining your approach to documenting ITF’s 10-year impact (including methodology, storytelling approach, and ethical considerations)
- Work plan and indicative timeline
- Budget or fee proposal
- Examples of relevant past work (evaluations, learning reports, storytelling products, or similar)
- Short bio or CV
Budget and Compensation
We have allocated resources up to $30,000 for this six-month consultancy. We welcome proposals that reflect your expertise, the scope you propose, and the depth of engagement this work requires. We are committed to fair compensation.
Deadline
The call for proposals will close on April 1, 2026. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis; we encourage early submission.
Closing
This consultancy represents more to ITF than simply measuring outcomes. It is an important opportunity to honor a decade of trans-led struggle, creativity, care, and collective power, and using that knowledge to shape the future of the organization. ITF is looking for a partner who can walk with us through this reflection with integrity, imagination, and deep respect for trans movements worldwide.
