Deadline: 10 December 2026 (no extensions will be granted)
The 5th IAFFE Feminist Economics School will take place from June 29 to July 1, 2027, at Okayama University in Okayama, Japan. The FE School is designed for participants who have had limited access to formal training in feminist economics. The programme consists of two and a half days of interactive workshops designed to give participants a solid grounding in feminist economic thought, methodologies, and policy applications, with a strong emphasis on reflecting on their own practices and experiences. The FE School precedes the IAFFE Annual Conference, which will be held from July 2 to 4, 2027. Participants in the FE School are also expected to attend the Pre-Conference on July 1 and the IAFFE Annual Conference.
We particularly encourage applications from individuals based in the Global South, as well as from historically discriminated groups worldwide.

What We Expect From Your Participation and Commitment
- Genuine interest and prior experience: This is a highly specialized program with limited spots, created for people who already meaningfully engaged in Feminist Economics questions and issues in their work and/or research. It is designed for those seeking an opportunity to engage in an in-depth study of feminist economics. We are looking for real curiosity about and dedication to the field.
- Attendance: You are expected to take part in the full 2.5 days of the School of Feminist Economics, half an afternoon of the IAFFE Pre-Conference, and the IAFFE Conference itself — an experience of approximately 6 days in total.
- Community: The School is designed as a full-immersion experience. We expect you to spend time with fellow students outside of formal sessions, as much of the learning happens in these informal spaces.
- Presence and focus: During the 2.5 days of the School, we ask for your full attention. Please plan to step away from work commitments, stay off your phone, and be fully present with the content and the group. We recognize that focus and social interaction look different for everyone, and we are happy to discuss any accommodations that would support your full engagement.
- Openness to methodology: You should be willing to engage with participatory, group-based approaches to learning.
- Shared responsibility: Making the FE School a success is a collective effort. IAFFE will have someone available to answer your questions throughout, and in turn, we ask for your commitment to following the protocols we’ve developed together as a community — including safety protocols, where applicable.
- Accessibility: If you have any accessibility needs, please let us know in advance so we can do our best to accommodate them. We respect and will do our best to support access needs.
If you have any questions, please contact Mayra Gonçalves at conference@iaffe.org.
