Call for Applications – Curatorial Collaborator (Goethe-Institut Nigeria)

Dreaming New Worlds is a curatorial platform for experimentation and future thinking between artists and scientists, initiated by the Goethe-Institut Nigeria. Since its inception, the project has held space for ideas that stretch imagination and complicate dominant narratives of progress and development. For our upcoming edition, Women Designed Cities, we are seeking a curatorial collaborator to work closely with the lead curator to shape this ambitious, interdisciplinary program.

This year’s theme explores what cities might look and feel like if designed by women* artists, thinkers, makers, and technologists from a distinctly Nigerian and feminist perspective. Rooted in Lagos but looking outward to other Nigerian cities and the Global South, Dreaming New Worlds 2025 seeks to investigate how beauty, care, technology, memory, and resistance can inform urban spatial futures.

Role & Responsibilities

The curatorial collaborator will:

  • Co-develop the conceptual and thematic framework alongside the lead curator.
  • Support in reviewing and selecting applications from collectives through the open call process.
  • Liaise with selected participants during the development of their work.
  • Help shape the final exhibition/public program design (physical and digital).
  • Contribute to the writing of curatorial texts and public-facing materials (wall texts, catalogue, press materials).
  • Participate in studio visits, public talks, and key events of the program.
  • Offer a critical and artistic perspective that broadens the project’s scope and deepens its contextual relevance.
  • Liaise with stakeholders towards the execution of the public exhibition

We are looking fora deep thinker and an experienced practitioner – someone imaginative, rigorous, and rooted in feminist, decolonial, and/or speculative approaches to curating.

  • Strong writing and research skills.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to co-build a project over time.
  • Based in Nigeria with strong ties to Nigerian cultural, artistic, or urban contexts.

We especially encourage women and nonbinary curators to apply, as well as those working outside mainstream curatorial institutions.
