Deadline: Monday, 30 June 2025 (before 5pm GMT)
The Nawi Afrifem Collective (Nawi Collective) is an African Feminist Political Economy collective
founded in 2020 with the purpose of building a community of African feminists and
organizations working on influencing, analyzing, deconstructing and reconstructing the political
economy. As African Feminists, we work to “reclaim the rich histories of Black [women] in
challenging all forms of domination, in particular as they relate to patriarchy, race, class,
sexuality and global imperialism” in the context of macro-level economic systems.
Our community believes that the macro-level economic systems and policies guiding our
countries, and the global economy, are fundamentally at odds with life. We nurture forms of
‘contemporarity’ that transform macro-level economic discourses, practices and ways of being,
offering feminist alternatives to neoliberal capitalism, neo-colonial infrastructures and
cis-heteropatriarchy. Nawi centers the lived experiences and knowledge production of African
feminists and women in our analysis and framing. Our African feminist politics are also
expressed in our commitment to cultivate macro-level economic alternatives that are grounded
in economic justice and liberation of African women, and all those oppressed by unjust systems
of power.
As part of our strategic priorities, we are looking to strengthen our communications and digital
presence to enhance the reach and impact of our knowledge outputs, including through the
Nawi Knowledge Portal and the directory of African women working on political economy.
Thus, the purpose of this assignment is to:
- Review and provide recommendations on the draft communications strategy
developed for Nawi, ensuring it aligns with our mission, values, and way of working.
This includes developing a concise dissemination strategy that outlines how Nawi’s
knowledge outputs can be shared effectively with relevant audiences to enhance reach,
engagement, and contribute meaningfully to broader macro-level economics discourse. - Contribute to the visibility and public engagement of the Nawi Knowledge Portal by
supporting content dissemination and updating the directory of African women working
in the field of political economy.
The consultant will undertake the following tasks:
A. Communications Strategy Review
- Engage in a working session with Nawi associates and core team to analyze the draft
communications strategy. - Identify strengths, gaps, and areas for improvement.
- Develop a practical dissemination strategy that supports the distribution of Nawi’s
knowledge outputs and supports the full “knowledge-to-impact” cycle that includes
media engagement and/or if relevant, podcast engagement and management. - Provide a list of possible media liaison experts at different geographical regions: global,
regional, national - Provide feminist-aligned recommendations to enhance the visibility and effectiveness of
Nawi’s communications. - Develop a revised communications strategy
B. Knowledge Management and Dissemination
- Review the current directory of African women working on political economy and identify
ways to expand the directory’s reach and inclusivity. - Develop an action plan to publicize the Nawi Knowledge Portal and promote
engagement with the directory. - Recommend appropriate dissemination channels and formats (e.g., newsletters, social
media, publications) in line with Nawi’s communications goals.
Deliverables
- A refined communication strategy incorporating key recommendations from the review
process, with a clearly defined strategy on internal resourcing for Nawi’s
communications work, and a dissemination strategy for Nawi’s knowledge outputs. This
will outline priority audiences, channels, and tools to enhance the visibility, accessibility,
and impact of Nawi’s knowledge products. - Updated Directory of African Women in Political Economy – A revised directory
featuring updated and additional profiles, with recommendations for ongoing
maintenance. - Visibility and Engagement Plan for the Nawi Knowledge Portal – A short-term action
plan to increase public engagement with the portal, including suggested content and
dissemination platforms.
