The Registered Trustees of Women Fund Tanzania (WFT Trust) is the first national feminist Fund in the country and the only funding support mechanism, started by women, for women, girls, and children. The Fund seeks to achieBoldve lasting feminist gains by addressing the root causes of unequal power relations, including gender-based inequalities, and other oppressive systems, attitudes, and social norms in various fields. We do this through funding women’s rights organisations, girls’, and children’s rights organisations and movement(s), and other social justice movements to be able to amplify voices and organise for collective transformative action to achieve progressive social change with agency.
WFT–T, in collaboration with Msichana Initiative and Cuso International, through the support of Global Affairs Canada, is implementing a 5-year project named Renewed Women’s Voices and Leadership Project (RWVL- T), which aims to support local women’s rights organizations (WROs) and young feminist-led organizations (YFOs) working towards the rights of women and girls. In Tanzania, the first RWVL Program was implemented in 2019-2024 with a core aim of emphasizing capacity-building and policy advocacy to enhance empowerment for women and girls.
Currently under the Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership Project (RWVL-T) Project (2025- 2030) is working towards achieving the following key project outcomes;
- Enhanced organizational sustainability of local WROs and YFOs organizations to deliver their gender equality (GE) mandates
- Strengthened programming and advocacy of WROs / YFOs to advance gender equality and empower women and girls
- Increased effectiveness of sub-national, national, regional, and global women’s rights platforms, networks, and alliances to affect policy, legal, and social change.
Key thematic areas for funding in 2026 are:
- Ending Violence Against Women, Girls, and Children
Focus on tackling all forms of gender-based violence, harmful practices, and promoting educational justice for girls. - Women’s Political Participation and Leadership
Addressing systemic barriers to women’s leadership and participation in political processes. - Economic Justice and Sustainability
Breaking barriers limiting women’s participation in key economic sectors and promoting financial inclusion. - Environmental Justice and Gender
Advocating for women’s rights in climate change and land rights decisions. - Feminist Research and Documentation
Using research to challenge gender inequalities and amplify women’s voices through multimedia platforms. - Sports, Popular Art, and Culture
Transforming policies and norms that exclude women from sports and cultural activities. - Reproductive Health Rights
Supporting feminist approaches to reproductive health, focusing on marginalized groups. - Movement Building and Strengthening
Promoting feminist movement-building through inclusive, intersectional approaches.
Grant Application Windows
- Small Scale Window
- Duration: 0–3 months
- Focus: Grassroots projects amplifying marginalized women’s voices
- Ideal for first-time applicants
- Medium Scale Window
- Duration: 6 months–1 year
- Projects under this Window should focus on initiatives for supporting women’s, girls’, and children’s rights organisations to build/strengthen relevant conceptual and organisational capacities, and expertise for networking and knowledge sharing with the women’s, girls’, and young feminist movements.
- Strategic Window
- Duration: Up to 2 years
- The Strategic Window is meant for funding longer-term projects/interventions of up to 2 years in duration and for activities that target feminist movement/platform/coalition-building efforts. The window can also be used to support WROs and YFOs that are growing and need support with core funding to build institutional and organisational capacity.

Who can apply
WFT Trust and Msichana Initiative Organization (MIO) is accepting applications from Women’s rights and young- feminist led organisations, and community-based organisations, working on the feminist agenda, while championing the rights of women and girls. Eligibility
- Legally registered entities: WROs, WOs, community-based groups, or coalitions.
- Demonstrated competencies in implementing projects.
- Strong record in financial and programmatic management.
- Grounded in rights-based approaches.
- Women-led organizations with a majority of women in leadership.
