Call for Application – Gender and Safeguarding Officer on the African Youth Panel at Trust Africa

RESPONSIBILITIES

Role:

Under the supervision of the African Youth Panel Manager (AYP) and the Director of Operations, the Gender and Safeguarding Officer will work closely in collaboration with the project team and TrustAfrica Team.

Responsibilities and Deliverables:

The list below outlines key responsibilities and deliverables of this contract. 

  • Develop and manages TrustAfrica’s Strategy and program safeguarding work for all aspects of the African Youth Panel project.
  • Provides technical advice and guidance, ensuring an intersectional approach and up-to-date safeguarding guidance across the African Youth Panel project.
  • Identifies and mitigates risks and ensures the protection, security and safety of all personnel, partners and beneficiaries.
  • Develops the appropriate mechanisms for periodic Gender and safeguarding reviews and adaptations.
  • Develops and delivers training on gender analyses, gender-responsive programming and policies across TrustAfrica and the African Youth Panel project team and Network, providing direct coaching and capacity support as needed.
  • Support partners in developing safeguarding policies and supporting broader safeguarding efforts across the project focus countries, etc.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field, such as gender and youth studies, gender and youth program/project development.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of demonstrable experience in the technical area of gender and youth mainstreaming, community development, and social and environmental safeguards risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Experience carrying out participatory gender and youth analysis; experience collecting and formulating gender responsive indicators and sex-disaggregated data and preparing gender and youth responsive project analysis; developing gender action plans.
  • Prior experience in the safeguards assessments and processes of international organizations and donors such as Mastercard Foundation, Risk Register and targeted stand-alone social and environmental management risk plans.
  • Demonstrated experience working in Africa on policy and programmatic issues with regional, national and local governments and civil society organizations including community organizations.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, advocacy, presentation, and communications skills in English or French with working knowledge in the other language or commitment to learn it.
