About the Organization
African Queer Youth Initiative (AQYI) is a regional youth-led organization dedicated to empowering queer youths across Africa. From southern to northern Africa, eastern to western Africa, including the African Islands, AQYI comprises motivated, dedicated, and resourceful young people working together to amplify the voices of LGBT+ youths in Africa. AQYI advocates for LGBT+ equality and elevates voices on issues affecting queer African youths.

Location: Remote (Within Africa)
Compensation: Competitive compensation based on national/regional labor conditions commensurate with experience and expertise. Contract renewal will be based on funding and performance.
Position Overview
AQYI seeks a Monitoring and Evaluation Officer to assess the impact of our programs, ensuring they meet their goals and deliver valuable outcomes for the community. The successful candidate will report to the Executive Coordinator and will be responsible for designing and implementing monitoring and evaluation (M&E) frameworks, collecting and analyzing data, and generating reports to inform strategic decisions and program improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive M&E plans to track the progress and impact of AQYI’s programs.
- Collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data to measure program effectiveness.
- Produce detailed reports and presentations for stakeholders, highlighting key findings and recommendations.
- Collaborate with program staff to ensure M&E activities are integrated into program planning and implementation.
- Provide training and support to staff on M&E processes and best practices.
- Stay informed about new methodologies and technologies in the field of M&E to enhance AQYI’s practices.
- Design and conduct baseline, mid-term, and end-line surveys to assess program impact and inform adjustments.
- Develop and manage databases to store and analyze data, ensuring data quality and integrity.
- Liaise with external evaluators and stakeholders to coordinate external evaluations and ensure alignment with AQYI’s M&E frameworks.
- Analyze trends and identify areas for improvement, providing strategic recommendations to enhance program effectiveness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Statistics, Development Studies, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in monitoring and evaluation, preferably within the nonprofit sector.
- Proficiency in data collection and analysis tools, including statistical software such as SPSS or Stata.
- Experience in designing and implementing M&E frameworks and methodologies.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present data clearly and persuasively.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to LGBT+ rights and a strong understanding of the issues facing queer youths in Africa.
- Experience working with diverse groups, including those differing in language and political opinion.
