About the Organization
African Queer Youth Initiative (AQYI) is a regional youth-led organization dedicated to empowering queer youths across Africa. From southern to northern Africa, eastern to western Africa, including the African Islands, AQYI comprises motivated, dedicated, and resourceful young people working together to amplify the voices of LGBT+ youths in Africa. AQYI advocates for LGBT+ equality and elevates voices on issues affecting queer African youths.

Role: Staff Assistant (Contract)
Reports to: Finance Officer/Operation Officer
Location: Remote (Within Africa)
Compensation: Competitive compensation based on national/regional labor conditions commensurate with experience and expertise. Annual and sick leave, as well as contributions to health insurance, will be provided. Contract renewal will be based on funding and performance. Position Overview
AQYI seeks a Staff Assistant to provide administrative support to our team, ensuring efficient and effective operations. The successful candidate will report to the Finance Officer and will be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks, including managing communications, scheduling, and record-keeping.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with day-to-day administrative tasks, including answering emails, managing schedules, and maintaining records.
  • Coordinate meetings and events, including preparing agendas and taking minutes.
  • Support the preparation and dissemination of internal and external communications.
  • Maintain organizational databases and ensure data accuracy and security.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, presentations, and other documentation.
  • Provide logistical support for staff and volunteers, including travel arrangements and expense tracking.
  • Track deadlines for internal reporting and program activities to ensure timely submissions.
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned to support the smooth functioning of the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance & Accounting, Office Management, or a related social science field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an administrative or support role.
  • Proficiency with office software, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Experience in a non-profit or advocacy organization is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to LGBT+ rights and a strong understanding of the issues facing queer youths in Africa.
