Call for Submissions: ILGA World LGBTI photo and video contest

Deadline: Friday, 15 September

In the history of the LGBTI movement, no moment is too big or small to be documented with photos and videos.

But there are stories that still do not get told enough. And even when they are, they may not always be told in the voices of our communities, and in a way that respects our dignity and safety.

This is why ILGA World, with the support of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), has launched an LGBTI photo and video contest to make more of these images available to the world.

Our initiative calls for photographers and video makers around the world to bring to life the power of human rights through their images. We are looking for photos and videos that are sourced in an ethical manner, and that can speak about self- and community affirmation, euphoria, despair, hope, and human rights advances or setbacks – in ways small and large.

Among all the materials received, ILGA World will also award a prize of EUR 200 to 10 submitted pieces of content, which will be selected by an ILGA World internal committee.

How to participate

All photos and videos must relate to the LGBTI community and to the work to advance the human rights of LGBTI people. All content must be sourced in an ethical manner. By submitting your images, you confirm that you are their creator and own the copyright to them (or jointly own the copyright with other parties and have their approval to submit them), and you agree to your images being made available under an Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) license.

The 10 selected awardees will be announced in the second half of September 2023, when the photos and videos will be announced on the ILGA World website. Follow this link to read the terms and conditions in full, before taking part in the contest.
