Minority Watch (Registered as MINORITY ADVOCATES FOR EDUCATION AND EQUITABLE ACCESS TO RIGHTS INITIATIVE with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria: ( registration document) is a non-profit organization based in Lagos State, Nigeria, established in 2022, dedicated to protecting the rights and dignity of LGBTQI persons, people living with HIV, women, and girls in Nigeria.
We are a non-profit organisation of lawyers and paralegals committed to the protection and enforcement of the rights and dignity of LGBTQI persons, people living with HIV, women, and girls in Nigeria. We offer legal representation to marginalized people facing various challenges, such as discrimination, violence, wrongful arrests, and human rights violations based on their sexual orientation and gender identity.
Minority Watch also uses strategic litigation and advocacy to bring about legal and policy reforms, working with government institutions, lawmakers, and human rights organizations to repeal discriminatory laws, implement inclusive policies, and develop legal frameworks that protect and empower LGBTQI persons, people living with HIV, women, and girls in Nigeria.
The Successful Applicant will:
- Design and implement a mixed-methods primary research study,
- Develop ethical, safety-centered research tools and protocols,
- Conduct FDs, anonymous surveys, and lived-experience documentation,
- Identify structural, legal, social, and institutional barriers to civic participation,
- Analyze participation patterns, policy priorities, and engagement pathways,
- Develop practical, evidence based recommendations for civil society, policymakers, and development actors,
- Submit: Inception Report, Data Collection Tools, Draft & Final Report (40-60 pages), Policy Brief, and Findings Presentation,
- Provide regular progress updates throughout the 10-12 week engagement
- Applicant must be resident in Lagos State
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have:
- A degree in Social Sciences, Public Policy, Public Health, Sociology, Political Science, or related field.
- Demonstrated experience in qualitative and quantitative primary research.
- Strong experience working with sensitive or hard-to-reach populations.
- Deep knowledge of Nigeria’s political, legal, and socio-cultural context.
- Proven competence in ethical research, confidentiality, and data protection.
- Strong analytical writing and reporting skills.
- Capacity to apply trauma-informed, gender-sensitive, and do-no-harm
