About the Annual Movement Reflection Workshop (AMRW)
The Annual Movement Reflection Workshop (AMRW) is a groundbreaking convening that brings together LGBTQI+ organizers from across West Africa to reflect, reconnect, and re-strategize. It is a space to center learning, healing, and collective power in the face of growing authoritarianism and anti-rights movements.
This year’s AMRW focuses on building an inclusive, resilient, and informed cross-border andcross-issue social justice movement. The convening will include movement reflection sessions, skills building, storytelling, wellness practices, and regional strategy design.
Workshop Objectives
- Foster a space for mutual learning and collective care.
- Inspire collective and joint advocacy amongst LGBTQI+ and allied movements.
- Deepen participant knowledge on resource mobilization, cross-movement organizing, and regional trends.
- Celebrate African queerness as a site of joy, resistance, and identity.
Key Learning Questions
- What strategies have worked (or failed) in resisting anti-LGBTQI laws and narratives across West Africa in the past year, and what can we learn from them?
- How are structural systems like patriarchy, colonial legacies, and religious fundamentalism shaping current threats and how can LGBTQI movements organize more intersectionally todismantle them?
- What practices of care, healing, and safety are sustaining LGBTQI activists and organizations, and how can we embed these more intentionally in our movement work?
- How can we strengthen regional movement infrastructure, including language justice, digital organizing, and funding access, to ensure we are not just surviving but building collective power?
