The African Queer Youth Initiative (AQYI) is recruiting its first cohort of Country Focal Persons. We are looking for passionate queer youth who are ready to strengthen local engagement, support fellow members and help expand AQYI’s impact across Africa.

Who can apply?
You should:
- Be a queer young person aged 18 to 35.
- Be based in Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, Burkina Faso or Uganda.
- Be available to dedicate approximately 4 hours per week to AQYI activities.
- Be connected to a queer youth community or network in your country.
- Be passionate about strengthening the queer youth movement in Africa.

About the Country Focal Person role
AQYI works across diverse contexts where safety, legal environments and community realities differ. The Country Focal Person (CFP) role helps ensure AQYI members receive local support, remain connected to the wider AQYI network, and that country-level insights inform our work across the continent.
Key responsibilities
As a Country Focal Person, you will:
- Serve as AQYI’s primary country-level contact.
- Support current and prospective members by providing basic guidance and connecting them with the appropriate AQYI teams.
- Identify and escalate safety concerns and emerging risks.
- Share monthly updates on country developments, opportunities and community needs.
- Maintain simple records of country activities to support organisational learning and reporting.
Selected Country Focal Persons will receive:
- A modest monthly stipend.
- Access to learning resources and professional development opportunities.
- Opportunities to contribute to local and regional queer movement building.
- Ongoing support from the AQYI team and connection with focal persons across participating countries.
