The African Key Populations Networks are pleased to announce the 3rd KP-Pre-conference that will take place on 29th and 30th November 2019, ahead of the 20th edition of the International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa scheduled for 2nd to 7th December 2019 in Kigali, Rwanda. The KP Pre-conference will focus on the theme ‘Rethinking Strategies and Forging Resistance: Out of the old and into the SDGs era through political will & community Investment’. By focusing on Strategies and Resistance for delivering SDGs among current and recently young key populations, two overlapping groups – both of whom are particularly vulnerable to HIV infection – are brought under one umbrella: key populations (KPs) and young people.
KPs continue to be most affected by HIV and AIDS across the globe, and particularly in Africa. Despite the evidence, KPs continue to bear the brunt of exclusion from national HIV policies, national sanctioned interventions and minimum packages of HIV services. Exploring the link between SDGs and cross-generation strategies to address sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) needs among KPs encourages long-overdue conversations that would identify priority interventions to reduce the death toll among young people and key populations. The KP Pre-Conference goal is to develop efficient strategies for addressing HIV and SRHR needs among current and recently young key populations in Africa.
